13 Handy iPhone Web Applications For Web Designers and Business

Times are changing, mobile evolution is here and here to stay. 10 years ago we had black and white screens on our cell phones, now today it’s possible to do almost anything with our smartphones. With the millions of iphone web applications and tools that can be downloaded for free from iTunes.

Web designers and web developers are now able to benefit from these handy iPhone applications that have been developed to help them with their everyday tasks and business ventures.

Here is a list I put together of 13 handy iPhone web applications for web designers, web developers and some for general business that I recommend you downloading and using on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

To find these applications just type in the name as displayed in the images in your app store search box.

1. Dropbox

Type: Free app

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad (Requires iOS 4.3 or later) and Blackberry devices

Dropbox gives you easy access to all your important files stored on your Dropbox account.

You can access it from any mobile device or any computer/laptop that has Dropbox installed, just sign into your account using your email and password.

It’s a great place to store all your important files that you may need easy access to on a regular basis.

Dropbox can be downloaded for free in the app store and you can also download it from your blackberry device.

2. WordPress

WordPress App

Type: Free

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later

You now have the ability to manage your blog from your mobile device. For someone who has a full time job and is trying to keep their blog updated, this is the application you’re looking for.

You can easily manage your WordPress blog or website right from your smartphone. You can respond to comments, edit posts, pages and add images or files to your WordPress blog.

By the way, there is no auto save on this application. So when you type up a long post and spend some time doing so, be sure to save it ahead of time.

3. HTML Viewer

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 2.0 or later

HTML viewer is a web development tool that allows you to view the source of a web page through your mobile device.

Those who are curious to see what kind of code is rendered on a mobile website, you can do so by downloading this awesome web development tool and viewing the source for any web page within your mobile safari browser.

4. Salary Calc

Type: Free

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.1 or later

Simple enough it calculates your daily, monthly and yearly salary based on the amount you enter in. If you charge $30 per hour and work 20 hours per week it will tell you how much you are making each month and year.

Just a very simple and handy calculator to have close by to work out your web development salary.

5. WebCapture

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later

This application lets you take screenshots of websites through your mobile device. It also strips out the toolbars within the screenshots, meaning you don’t have to do any cropping or editing to any of the images. A convenient time saver for busy bloggers.

I don’t know about you bloggers, but I am always taking screenshots for websites and tutorials etc.. Having an application that saves me time from editing my images is very useful to have.

6. Mobile Markup – Code Editor

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later

Mobile Markup is a HTML editor for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It’s a very simple editor which allows you to create HTML, CSS and Javascript documents from your mobile device.

It’s good to have if you are too busy to be in the office and need to whip up something fast for a project that you may have a tight deadline for. This app is a must have for any web developer who has a busy schedule and is my personal favorite.

With Mobile Markup you can:

  • Code HTML, CSS and Javascript
  • Import source code from any other website
  • Email your documents to yourself or co-workers and clients.
  • Its completely mobile, so you can code a document no matter where you are

7. Company Name Generator
Company Name Generator Application

Type: Free

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later

Now you may not like this app as some of the names are kind of silly, but in all honesty they actually give you some good ideas on abstract names for your business.

We are talking names that have no meaning, but if you add the word designs or media to the end of them it sounds catchy and perfect for a business name.

Anyone who is struggling with choosing a business name should really download this app as it does help create some new ideas for a business name. Give it a try and tell me what you think.

8. Color Viewfinder – The real time, free…

Color Viewfinder Application

Type: Free app

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later

This is such a great app, you basically point your camera at any object and it picks up the color palette from whatever your camera is pointing at. You then save the palette and it produces the hex and RGB codes for the colours you were looking at through your camera. Pretty cool huh?

It is great for those colours that you get inspiration from on the road and would like to feature in one of your own custom designs.

If I am not explaining this application clear enough, then go ahead and download it yourself!

9. How to Write a Business Plan

Type: Free app

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad (Requires iOS 5.0 or later)

When you start your own business you can be pretty sure that you will need to learn how to write a business plan. A business plan defines your company before it’s even formed. It is something that is mandatory for every business.

With this app you can get it right the first time, instead of writing out 6 or 7 business plans. You follow a 5+ step process of videos explaining different strategies and fundamentals of creating your own business plan.

It also provides you with some plan templates and legal documents that will be required. Which you can use to draft out your very own business plan.

And of course it can all be learned right from your iPhone!

10. Documents Free (Mobile Office Suite) Documents Free Application

Type: Free app

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad (Requires iOS 4.3 or later)

Documents Free allows you to edit and manage your word documents and spreadsheets through your iPhone. This app has been ranked the #1 overall business app on iTunes in over 40 countries.

Files can be opened through all major office suites such as Microsoft office and Open Office. You can also synchronize your documents to Google docs, Dropbox and send via email.

For anyone who has a busy schedule this app would be ideal for you. Allowing you to quickly and efficiently create documents straight from your iPhone.

11. PayPal
PayPal Application

Type: Free app

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad (Requires iOS 4.3 or later)

With the PayPal application you can send and request money for gifts or any other reasons through your smartphone. You can also use the “local” feature to find local merchants who are using the new PayPal Here service and pay them through your PayPal app.

If you are a local merchant who wants to accept payments you can download the “PayPal Here” app for your smartphone and register to receive a free pocket sized card reader from PayPal.

PayPal here is aimed towards existing business owners.

12. Fathm – Time Management Fathm - Time Management Application

Type: Free app

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad (Requires iOS 4.0 or later)

For you busy bees who can’t keep track of your time, appointments and meetings then you should try downloading “Fathm – Time Management”. The title gives it away, but yes its an app to help manage your time. Be sure to go through the tutorial to get a deeper understanding of the application.

13. Easy TimeSheet Lite

Type: Free

Available on: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad (Requires iOS 3.0 or later)

Last but not least, the “TimeSheet” application. Now for anyone who charges by the hour, you want to look into downloading this application. All you do is set your currency, your hourly rate and hit the start button.

It will then time you and price out how much it will cost for your time. If you charge 35 dollars an hour then once the time reaches an hour it will hit $35.00, if you go over it, the amount will keep adding up until you hit stop. This way you can see if you loose or gain money for your time spent working.

I know that web designers and developers are often charging by the hour so this would be an app to download.

    • Hi Amedar, I try to update the website as much as I can, I have been kind of busy, so I try to fit in at least one article per week. Hope this helps.
